Group Work: A socially responsible design project

A socially responsible apparel and textile design project
Apparel and textile design have become increasingly concerned with issues of sustainability and ethics with regards to design, production and consumption. The fashion industry has begun by assisting humanitarian causes, or social development on a practical, personal level, by some initiative takers. This research project will explore the possibilities of utilizing apparel design as a means of improving the lives of those more disadvantaged members of society. In turn, through our research, analysis, design and production, we aim to explore the realm of possibilities for the use of apparel and textile products in society as a whole. Our intention is to use our knowledge, skills and resources to develop a project which serves to improve the quality of life of mentally and physically handicapped children. Designs should promote positive emotions whilst being protective, educative, developmental, multi-functional, healing, progressive, secure, performance enhancing, sustainable, fun, and attractive for children.
